I'm a guitarer, very little in the way of lessons, mostly self and spud taught.  I've been playing I guess for nearing 9 years or so, seriously since around the beginning of 2000.  I don't have pics of my geetars at the moment, but I play a Squier Strat that's been modified to include humbuckers and new saddles/trees/tremnut, volume knobs, tone switch, basically everything but the body.  and I play dagron, a dillion which is a prs dragon copy (near as i can figure).  My acoustic is a semi acoustic Yamaha.

I've played in Stillseed in the past and before that it was N.O.B., Drink the Mistakes and whatever other names we were going through at the time.

Currently I'm working on a project with 2 members of Stillseed + Shayne Hawken called The Incident, though I've no doubt a name change is forthcoming, plus a whole lot more work before we're show ready.

I've been known to sing but it's rare and seldom in front of a crowd.

No previous bands just the one im in now. My grandpa played drums for nearly his entire life, so in a small way it got me started.

influences are mostly along the lines of:
the faceless, the black dahlia murder, all shall perish, job for a cowboy, winds of plague, origin, between the buried and me etc..

It will be 10 years this September. I had about 2 years of lessons.

Are you currently in a band?

Everyone here has figured this out by now.

Any previous bands?

Nope The Fifth Dawn is my first

What made you choose said instrument?

My best friend showed me some chords and then I just couldn't put it down.

What are your influences?

Mattias IA Eklundh, Neil Zaza, and basically any band I'm really digging at any given time.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?

No.

What do you play?
Vox...I yell

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
Damn, I'm not sure. Officially (read: since being in actual bands) for I think 5 or 6 years. Unofficially (read: try outs for bands, screwing around with musicians, just doing vox & writing cuz I want to, etc.) for about 13 years. Nothing formal though...

Are you currently in a band?
If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?

My name is Funshine Bear, and I'm a Cupcakeaholic

Any previous bands?
I was the former yelly guy for Chapel Hill, no other official bands to speak of aside from being a part of Kaizen for about a month or 2 back in 99 during the initial start up/writing process

What made you choose said instrument?
Cuz I'm too lazy to learn any other instruments? That and because I feel I can express more through vocals/lyrics through meaning and through venting. However, I'm slowly trying to advance my knowledge to some instruments that are beyond me just yelling at childrens.

What are your influences?
Oh shit, this is gonna be somewhat long and split into two sects:

Lyrically- Dennis Lyxzen (Refused, International Noise Conspiracy), Billy Werner (Saetia, Hot Cross), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Sean Ingram (Coalesce), Juliana Hatfield, Tim Kinsella, Al Burian (Hellbender, Milemarker, Challenger), Blake (Jawbreaker)

Vocally- Mike Patton, John Chang (Discordance Axis), Mike Oleander (Burnt By The Sun, Endeavor), Sean Ingram (Coalesce), Dimitri (Dillinger Escape Plan's original vocalist), Tim S(w)inger (Deadguy), JK Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu), that guy who's name I can't remember from Breach

What do you play?
Drums, i guess i play some piano, but not seriously for years and years. So i hit stuff.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
About 5 years, about 3 and a half or so seriously. Before that i noodled and didnt know jack.

Are you currently in a band?
If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?
I play in Symbiote and Necroblast

Any previous bands?
Nope... Symbiote was my first band

What made you choose said instrument?
Played "percussion" as it might be called in school band, a full kit was the next logical step once i got bored.

What are your influences?
I guess theres a few drummers i try and incorporate elements of their technique, and unique styles, although its more so them inspiring me to play, but i definately pay very close attention to the drumming of Horgh (Immortal), Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy) Bran Dailor (Mastodon) and Martin Lopez (Opeth)

What do you play?
Guitar, my main axe is a hot rodded Epiphone Les Paul Custom.  Main work is a full refret with special hardened fretwire, compound radius on the fretboard and a few other special tricks...  looking to install a bone nut and some new pickups so I can do some more mods...

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
Been playing for 18 years, took lessons in the beginning for a couple of months but the teacher wouldn't show me Black Sabbath so I quit.  Self taught for a long time then studied with Ben Winoski for 2 years.

Are you currently in a band?
Suffersurge.
If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?

Any previous bands?
Hemisynch
Sentinel

What made you choose said instrument?
Hearing Toni Iommi's thunderous riffs on the Sold our Soul For Rock n Roll.  I thought that learning to play Paranoid and Iron Man would make me cool.  Chicks still ignored me...
What are your influences?
Alex Skolnick, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest & Black Sabbath

What do you play?
I play lots of acoustic fingerstyle stuff right now. I also play heavier metal stuff for fun and old 60's/70's rock plus whatever I feel like that day.
I also fool around on the piano and I'm starting lessons next week.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
I started playing when I was 11 I think but I never really practiced until these last couple years. I've been playing everday for around 2 years now and had about 6 months of lessons recently from Ben Winoski as well as a few times briefly in the past from other people.

Are you currently in a band?
Nope but I am looking for something interesting to do

Any previous bands?
Basically just highschool bands for fun.

What made you choose said instrument?
We had guitars around the house when I was young and I was always drawn to music and so it was just a natural choice.

What are your influences?
Probably not much metal nowadays as it bores the hell outta me Tongue.
I really like Nick Drake and Jose Gonzalez, Bob Dylan, Love, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Allman Brothers Band, Jimi Hendrix.
As well as TONS of other stuff....classical, blues, jazz, rock, post rock and lots in between.

What do you play?
Bass (5 string) - Peavey BXP5 (its decent but i want to get a better one)

Are you currently in a band?
No metal, but yes.
Celexa (Experimental harsh noise jam band, s'toons noise scene is awesome btw)
Solo project Krepuskuler. songs so far are all terror ebm/industrial/electro. i have a few metal songs in the works though. one is about 20% done being recorded. i would be done by now, but my software is being a pain in the ass.

Any previous bands?
nope

What made you choose said instrument?
i started with bass because tons of people played guitar and my friend played drums, i wanted to do something different. guitar i picked up because i had a hard time writing songs only knowing how to play bass. synth i bought because i listen to lots of industrial and ebm.

What are your influences?
Lots of stuff. i mostly listen to (melodic) death metal, grindcore, a select few metalcore bands, industrial, and terror ebm.

What do you play?
Drums - Mapex Saturn 6-piece
Guitar - usually an Epiphone SG or Godin Exit 22, but also an ESP EC-50 (sad) and a surprisingly good-sounding frankenstein Vantage.
Bass - ESP B-255 or Peavey Fury II

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
Drums - 7 years. Took one drum lesson but the guy wouldn't let me play left handed, so I never went back.
Guitar - 9 years. No real formal training, went to a guy a couple times who helped me tab out some songs when I was first starting, developing my ear more than anything
Bass - 4 or 5 years. Started playing in high school band.

Are you currently in a band?
If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?
Guitar - LGT.
Been writing and recording my own "project" for the last three years, although I'll never have the heart to let anyone hear it.
I miss playing metal with other people, a lot... ripping out a couple riffs once or twice a month just doesn't cut it. I'd love to play bass, 'cept I only have a little 45 watt amp right now.

Any previous bands?
Vicious Playtyme - guitar
The Frying Pan Project/Bad Example - drums
Edit: I can't believe I forgot this! In high school, I played guitar in a Bon Jovi cover band called Intangible. Hahaha.  smiley

What made you choose said instrument?
Guitar - my sister wanted to play as a kid, tried it but gave it up for bass. I couldn't let that Sears Nova guitar sit around unused.
Drums - I really don't know. My parents were buying my sister her first bass and asked if there was an instrument I was interested in. Since I was already using the old Nova guitar and had a lefty acoustic, I figured I could try something else and drums were shiny.
Bass - band was an easy credit, and since they let us play electric bass the group of us would rock out with the volume off while the teacher was working with someone else.

What are your influences?
I don't even know where to start with this. Maybe I'll come back and edit this later. I guess my biggest "thing" is with bass. I like it lurking all over the map in the background. Bass is a real instrument folks, use it for more than *bomp, bomp* accenting the rhythm guitar! Think Burst. Mmm. Those songs can bring me to tears, but without the bass I'd feel nothing.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
Boobs.

What band/s were you in ?

I was in a fistful of bands in the 90's - Furiant, Stronghold (both early to mid 90's), Thirteen Knots(mid 90's), The Handsome Devils(late 90's), and the New Jacobin Club (1995 to present). Legal shit eventually caused the Handsome Devils to later become the Heatscores, but it was still the same band.

I know I'm forgetting a couple more that never played outside Saskatoon, I'm sure they'd be even less remembered than these ones.

I rip on the drums. I own this ancient Obelisk kit, I found it in the corner at L & M and picked it up super cheap...I wouldn't trade it for anything. 'Tis a 6-piece with 10", 12", 13" and 16" toms 14" snare and 22" Kick. I use a DW4000 pedal with Sabian/Zildjian cymbals.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
I've been playing for about 8 yrs now and have about 4 yrs of formal drum training under my belt plus about 6+ years formal training on other instruments and music theory.

Are you currently in a band?
If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?

I'm currently piecing together a new death/black-death metal band with some guys I know. We have a couple tunes down already and will hopefully be lookin at playing some shows by summer.

Any previous bands?
Dämonen - Feb 06 - Oct 07

What made you choose said instrument?
When I was about 13 my older brother played guitar, all I wanted to do was play with him...twas the natural choice.

What are your influences?
Dave Lombardo, Vinne Paul, Lars Ulrich (in the beginning), Inferno, Sam Murphy, Derek Roddy, Marco Pitruzzella, Adam Jarvis, Darren Cesca, Vitek...

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
nope

I'm not too worried.

Or worried at all, for that matter.

You're lucky Maiden's sold out, you'll have lots of places to hide.
