I love the production on Black Label Society's Shot to Hell, the guitars are massive, yet they don't bury the drums or bass. Actually all of BLS albums except for Sonic Brew are amazing production wise.

The journey of a thousand miles sometimes ends very very badly... I expected times like this: but never thought they'd be so bad, so long and so frequent. When you wish upon a falling star, your dreams can come true. Unless it's really a meteor hurtling to the Earth which will destroy all life. Then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it's death by meteorite.

An album worthy of recognition for sound production anywhere is Dream Theater's live performance on Score, or rather, the orchestra. Every instrument was captured with surgical precision, including the timpani. Petrucci and Rudess are balanced almost 50/50 and LaBrie doesn't sound as whiny as he can get. My only complaint on the live album is that Myung is somewhat inaudible, even his solo on Metropolis. Other than that the concert, especially the first movement of Six Degrees and the incredible arrangements on Octavarium and Sacrificed Sons, was well done and executed only how Dream Theater could. Its to the point where I can't listen to some album versions of the songs, they're just not as good.

Finally someone mentioned The Gathering! Eric Peterson's guitar is the epitome of heaviness in this album, and complimented with Dave Lombardo's drumming, its a winner for me. And while we're on the topic of drums, how about ANY of the Pantera albums?!?!? When CFH came out, nobody out there had drums half as thick as Vinnie's!

Myung is always buried in every DT mix - tis a shame.
Sound of Perseverance by Death recorded/mixed at Morrisound Studios sounds amazing - every part so perfectly easy to make out and clear to hear - but that comes with deadly musicians and I love the raw sounding mix (no pro-tools over-saturation).
Don't get me wrong - a pro tooled album sounds deadly - but raw recordings mixed properly are unbeatable.

Stoner Albums Nebula - To the Centre (soo crisp and the fuzz is godlike) Fu Manchu - In Search of.. Electric Wizard - Dopethrone and Witchdult today (Analog crushed) Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun (the room for off bass cabs while recording... MEGABIANED..its "quiet" forcing you to turn it up and bring out more lows) Brant Bjork - Jalamanta (this album alone is the best IMO, the vibes and ambiance is wonderful... even tho its all multi-tracked (each played solo by BB) it sounds like a perfect live jam and the low end on that album takes you for a ride) Hawkwind - EVERY ALBUM (effects and such are soo cosmic... some of the shit they did with analog is breathtaking) Metal Macabre - Dahmer (pretty much one of the heaviest albums of all time and ahh soo awesome) Managarm - Havets Varger (sp?) Thorns - S/T (the guitars on this album is like cosmic saw blades... plus new album in the works apparently) Trollfest - Welcome Folk To The Drinking Feast S.Y.L - Every album (tone tone tone tone tone) Candlemass - Nightfall (love the tone on the guitars and the "def leppard" style reverb/echo snare FTW LMFAO) Electronic/Hip Hop anything Dr. Dre touches man that dude makes some sick beats! Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion Gum (this album hath consumed my soul) Blackroc - The dudes from Black Keys lay down some sick shit! Chemical Bros. - 'nuff said Deadmau5 - soo sick Beastie Boys - Love the prod value on EVERYTHING! LOL but defiantly worth noting Alanis Morissette - Jagged Lil Pill (love the mix, and the drums) The Cranberries - No Need to Argue (very very well made album and again the studio drummer is sick!!) Misc rock and such PJ Harvey - Every album Led Zeppelin - all the random captured noises and such ( http://www.saskmetal.com/index.php?topic=13630.msg288472) QOTSA - Songs for the deaf (so overly produced but soo good) cant think of anything else ATM

Macabre - Dahmer (pretty much one of the heaviest albums of all time and ahh soo awesome)
The guitars have a really grating sound on this album that I find is pushed to high in the mix. I can hear them clipping at some points throughout. Still love the album. S.Y.L - Every album (tone tone tone tone tone)
Uhhhh the self titled is awful production. The other four are fantastic though especially Alien.

Landry.. I admire your bravery at pointing out "Jagged Little Pill" on this forum.. for fear that some of the closed-minded fools would laugh at you. But, nonetheless, I must agree with you, that is a fantastic sounding, and extremely well-produced album. Love the "roundness" of the bass guitar sound. Excellent bass lines as well. Kinda groovy and funky. I actually catch myself playing along to this album on bass from time to time.
