Well, as I'm sure you're all aware, I yell for Chapel Hill, a post-hardcore, post-indie rock, mathy screamo band within Regina.  Or, as we like to call ourselves (genrewise that is) Trance Hardcore.  We have recently finished recording and mixing our 9 song CD to be titled The Voice of Broken Glass with our good friend Alex Arsenault.  Yes, it is a rather DIY recording process in a makeshift studio, but, don't let that fool you. I personally believe the recording quality is just as good as if we were to throw down way too much money in an actual studio, plus, in the process we got helped out by and could help a friend trying to break into the recording industry.  The songlist for the CD is (and this is the tentative tracklisting):

1. Tomorrow's Failures Today
2. The Price of Perseverance
3. Dance of Broken Effort
4. Do You Read Sutter Cane?
5. Borrowed Time
6. Sometimes the Best You Can Expect is to Avoid the Worst
7. Travolta
8. The Lesson of Metcalfe
9. Impending Crisis/Immanent Tragedy

Right now we have an unfinished mix version of The Lesson of Metcalfe and the final cut of Travolta as well as an early demo of Dance of Broken Effort on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/chapelhill) for everyone to check out.  If you haven't already, please visit the site, let us know what you think about the tracks, and, if you're subscribing to MySpace, add us to your friend list! c'mon! It'll be fun!

Also, we have a listing on www.supernova.com - full url http://www.supernova.com/bands/profile.php?band_id=11358 - a large Canadian promotion group which deals specifically with independant and newer bands which helps these bands to get exposure.  They've helped bands such as Kittie and Sum 41 to get to where they are today.  Not that I need such grand exposure as those two bands, but, you know, every bit helps. By visiting the site and having a profile to add us as a fan or even to vote for us can help the possibilities of winning different band contests to aid us for future recording, tour deals and such.

Also, for a last bit of info, we have some merch currently available, namely Chapel Hill shirts, hand screened by our very own guitarist Nathan.  The shirt is currently only available in pink ink on white.  The basic shirt image is as follows:

As well we are featured on a limited release, independantly released concept compilation which features members of the Coalesce message board. Songs ranging from grindcore to screamo to indie rock to ambient, but all experimental. Tracklisting is:

1. The Glasses Otter - Start A Tab
2. Gozer - Me and A Hammer
3. Grandma - A Duke of Shards
4. Hundred Year Hex - There's No Time For Help
5. Make Way For Ducklings - Daydream's Wide Open Mouth
6. Chapel Hill - Do You Read Sutter Cane?[/u] (unmixed version)
7. The Paper Street Soap Company - As Seen On TV
8. Ring of Meat - Chinese Laundry
9. Katastates - This Song was Programmed So the Timing is Right On
10. Kindergarten Hazing Ritual - If This Were 1974 You'd Be Too Busy Sucking My Dick To Watch Inuyasha
11. The Apostles - Death and Murder Take A Holiday

These cds are available in a slimline clear DVD case with slick art packaging on CD-Rs and hand numbered.  We will have these CDs and shirts available to sell at shows or, just get in touch with us. Speaking of shows, I'd better see all y'all at The Jesse (BobJovie) Birthday Extravaganza this Saturday June 4th with Hereafter and Gate. It'll be killer.

Ok, I'll shut up now

um, it was my idea for the basic design, but brought to life and made to look 100 times better than my idea by Nathan (our lead guitarist)

Thanks a lot steph. if you're interested, and have a design Idea (i think he can only do 1 color at this time though) just drop me a line or email him at screamokid(AT)gmail(DOT)com. He does it for fairly cheap with no set up fee.

ahh, alas, the recording of Brotherhood of Sleep (the song you're referring to) collapsed in on itself and turned into a pile of burning rubble and was consequentially scrapped from the cd
hopefully in the future we can re-record it
and, depending on the mood, we *might* play it at the show Saturday, but we have some other tricks up our sleeves...

I know it's pink Russ...but the design is just funny in a morbid sort of way. I mean, the freakin' kid is skipping to hang his own noose (I take it?)

I love it.

I've never really looked closely at that shirt... but I've been listening to the CD nonstop since I got it... and that line on the bottom of the shirt is one of my favourite lines ever.

Not just "on that cd."

I mean "EVER."

so it's cool that it's on the shirt.

well, I may as well spill the beans, but it didn't pan out as we hoped, but, the fact that we were considered still stokes me:

We were being considered to play the Ernie Ball stage of Warped Tour in Clagary next month. Granted, it's a side stage but, we aren't signed, and we have yet to release anything....as near as I can tell, that's very rare to be asked to play a Warped Tour date without any tours, releases, contracts or at very least being ex-members of some big bands in your past...Apparently the situation was this: 1 band dropped out and another band seemed like they might drop out as well. Someone from Ernie Ball got in touch with Avarice to Lace and offered them first shot at the 1 deffinate opening.  Then they asked ATL if they had any suggestions if this second band dropped out, and ATL gave Ernie Ball our guitarists phone number.  From what they told him, if this other band were to drop out or whatever, we'd get the bill....my drummer tells me today that Ernie Ball had contacted him yesterday to let him know that the other band had confirmed so our services won't be needed.   I'm still looking at it on the positive end, the fact that we were considered is something....

The other good news, I haven't got the full details on, but it apparently involves a newer label to SK helping fund our CD....but, we aren't technically signed to them...so, that's where I get confused and have been too busy with other things in life and mostly school to get to know what is going on

sounds like all good things in the world of chapel hill, and that would be super kudos to ATL for getting a slot on Warped.  That's awesome!

um....I don't recall of any bands with that name actually. I know Sonic Youth had a song by that name, and there were a number of great bands that came from the area, but I don't know of a single band ever named Chapel Hill. If you can prove me wrong, by all means, inform me of a website, album, members, label, contact, whatever.

But to answer the original question, the name, mostly as a tribute to some great bands that came from around Chapel Hill, NC....most specifically, and the reason I suggested the name, Hellbender

Chapel Hill has signed for a 1 album contract with Arcanum Records which is being submitted to pressing later today with a scheduled release date of November 17th (or possibly as late as November 27th...depending on how quick the pressing company can get shit done)
