What do you play?

Guitars: Schecter C1+, Washburn Idol, Jackson PS4
Bass: A polished Ibanez turd.
I'm also a whiz on the kazoo and the big brown jug.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?

Guitar: 14 years, about 5 years of lessons.
Bass: 8 years

Are you currently in a band?

Yes. But we haven't a name. . . or a singer. Come see us Apr.4 at the Exchange, it should be interesting.

Any previous bands?

None that anyone has heard of:
Cauldron, Mindriot, Medicine Jar, and a few other nameless failed projects.

What made you choose said instrument?

It was easier than playing organized sports, and I thought it would get me laid. . . fuck was I mistaken.

What are your influences?

Beer, Dimebag, Dave Mustaine, cheap wine, Josh Homme, Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde, gin, John Frusciante, Kim Thayil

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?

Tasty? No.

What do you play?

Roland RD-300sx stage piano(88keys)
Roland D-10 Synthesizer(61 keys)
Any style, any time. I like to just sit down and improv for a couple hours to see what comes of it.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?

10 years of classical training. I've got a pretty intimidating stack of 1st and 2nd place win certificates, and a few scholarships. Most of this doesn't mean much for metal but it was for sure the way to go for developing skill.
Overall, 11 years of music.

Are you currently in a band?

Currently taking offers and possibly starting a project with a few friends.

Any previous bands?

Yes, a project we called Opus. It would have been exceptional music but we were forced to shut things down after losing our drummer and guitarist.

What made you choose said instrument?

I showed almost instant natural talent for piano and decided it was the way to go.

What are your influences?

Jordan Rudess, Michael Pinella, Tuomas Holopainen, Elton John, Opeth, John Petrucci, Michael Romeo, Jordan Bolay(good friend and poet; lyrics), classical artists; Dmitri Kabalevski, Edvard Grieg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; also all of my life experiences in some ways contribute to a part of my music.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?

I hereby promote myslef. Hear me roar!

I'm an instrument whore.  I play em all.  Drums for 15 years, guitar on and off for about the same amount of time.  I've put a lot more focus into the drums - hence is my main instrument - however spent countless hours noodlin on the geetar.  I've been experimenting with vocals and have come up with 'my sound' now too.  On the bright side - I think it's working!

I have 2 full 6 piece drum kits (obelisk and peavy) with a mixture of zildjian and sabian cymbals.  An Ibanez RG guitar, a Framus semi acoustic, Epiphone classical, a 5 string bass with active pick ups (can't remember the brand name I just play the thing), a PA with mics and a Pro Tools LE rig.  I am an active member in 4 bands.  2 located here 2 scattered across eastern Canada.  I heart metal.  It is all I play.

What do you play?
Guitar. I can also kind of play keyboard.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
Close to 6 years, now. Self-taught.

Are you currently in a band?
Egh, not really. I occassionally swap recordings back and forth with a friend of mine in BC and we attempt to turn them into songs, lol. Anyone need a guitarist? Haha.

Any previous bands?
A couple high-school bands, nothing too serious, though.

What made you choose said instrument?
My cousin plays guitar. One day, he just showed me how to play a few chords and some different riffs and I got right into it from there.

What are your influences?
I listen to a lot of different shit, lol. Pretty much anything that I listen to influences me somehow. I think it was probably Metallica that really got me interested in playing music, though.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
Nah, not really, lol.

What do you play?
The Geetar.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
About 10 years.  When i first picked up the guitar I had maybe a month or two sessions out in the boonies but I didn't like what i was being taught.  Never cared for Mary Had A Little Lamb.  Self taught ever since.

Are you currently in a band?
Omen & Stillseed.  I also have been writing solo music, including just recently starting writing for two new projects of mine.

Any previous bands?
Never officially played in any other band.  I've been playing with the core group of Stillseed for pretty much my whole time playing guitar, we changed over the years from different sounding music and band names but still the same main group of people.  My first talent show though back when i was 12 or 13 i played a cover of Fear of the Dark under the project name Dragonfire... hahaha.  Does that count?

What made you choose said instrument?
I'm pretty sure I wanted to be a drummer before I played guitar, but there was always a guitar around growing up, my Dad plays, and I think it just sort of happened.  Wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

What are your influences?
I could go on all day and night.  I like Frank's answer for this one, "anything that sounds good to me".  Anyone who knows me personally should know this answer anyways.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
Like I said I'm writing music for two brand new projects, but I'll post more information on those when I get the recording process started.  If anyone's curious with what I'm talking about, you can just ask me.

Good Gravy.

Time for shameless self promotion kiddies! I'm curious to see how much talent we have on this site

What do you play?

Both guitar and bass guitar.
Guitar: Yamaha shit (electric) and a Fender Squier (acoustic)
Bass: Fender squier (really old and really bad)

All of my instruments are second hand ones, except the acoustic guitar which was actually a Christmas gift.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
I've been playing guitar for around a year, and bass for the last couple of months.  I have never had any training with either, I can't read music and have to either find tabs or figure things by ear.  And I like to think for somebody who hasn't had any training I am quite good.

Are you currently in a band?
I am not currently in a band.  I would like to be a bassist in a metal band in the future, but i'd like to be good enough first.  I could probably be in one, but i'd be the worst member by far.

Any previous bands?

No.

What made you choose said instrument?
My friend let me borrow his Yamaha electric guitar, and later sold it to me when he bought a Gibson SG.  It is a really cheap guitar, but I loved to mess around on it and create music and look up tabs.  Bass I picked up because I learned how to play some riffs.  It is simpler to do (for the genres of music I listen to) and people are always looking for bassists, might as well try it.

What are your influences?
I really don't know what to say here.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
Not really.  If anybody in the Saskatoon area decides to sell an old bass, i'd be willing to buy it.  I'd go for 300$ for a decent quality secondhand.  I am a bit poor so I can't get anything that great.

What do you play?
Bass guitar, Banjo.

Mainly play the bass. Typically a 6 string Ibanez BTB.
When I feel like it I play 4 string  LTD F-104 with a Badass II bridge (it makes it a lots punchier), or a 4 string Yamaha RBX-550.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?

Bass, 8 years. Banjo 2. Fuck no to the training.

Are you currently in a band?
Yes, EchoSerenity.

If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?

We are a metal group out of Saskatoon, looking to write amazing stuff.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.72428552310.73586.8374672310#!/pages/EchoSerenity/154533774573492

Any previous bands?
If playing for Rocker 206 counts, sure. 2005 - 2008
http://rocker206.newgrounds.com/

What made you choose said instrument?

Best friend started playing guitar, needed someone to play along with.

What are your influences?
Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, John Myung, Billy Sheehan, Alex Webster, Robert Trujillo, Stu Hamm, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, and Dimebag (Haha, surprising?).

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
If it's any concern; I have a very aggressive technique to all my playing, my right hand utilizes all fingers including the thumb, in any variation of slapping of picking. I have developed a technique of getting pinch harmonics on a bass with no pick.

I tap quite a bit (utilizing on average two fingers on my left hand and three on my right), I "bass sweep"/traditional sweep when I can, I use chords like a bastard, bend way too much, slide even more and shred as much as I can in bass solos. I learned everything on my own on just a bass.

I hope that wasn't too shameless.... I am just proud of the work I have achieved. smiley

Instruments:
Guitar - LTD Alexi-600, Sterling Petrucci Custom, Fender Stratocaster
Piano - I haven't played seriously in a long time so I'm pretty rusty.
Drums - Just messed around, don't actually own a kit so I'm not very good. I played percussion in band in highschool and took some lessons from a friend.

Duration:
I took 6 years of private lessons in guitar but was only serious for the last 3 or 4.In total I have played guitar for 9 years. I currently teach guitar as well. I took 6 years of piano lessons as a kid, where I learned most of my academic theory, more applicable theory I learned with guitar.

Band Situation:
I am not currently in a band but I am looking for members for my band (clean singer/growler, think Scar Symmetry's Holographic Universe style singing as well as a bassist, I should have everything else covered). Style is Melodic Death Metal! I am also very open to joining other metal bands, preferably melodic or at least with guitar leads but I'm not terribly picky.

Previous Bands:
None, playing for a buddy for his project whenever he can get everyone together.

What made me choose guitar:
Iron Maiden. They are the reason I picked up a guitar and the reason I had the dedication to become as good as I am now, as much as some of you will flame me for it Children of Bodom's Hatebreeder through to Hatecrew Deathroll is what challenged me to be a shredder, it worked. My second would be guitar solo's. I. Love. Guitar solos.

Influences:
My influences range from Iron Maiden to Kalmah to Scar Symmetry and Soilwork to Necrophagist. I just like metal, and leads, harmonized leads give me boners.

More Shameless Self Promotion:
If I can't play it, I will play it until I can, usually without stopping. I learned sweep tapping probably before I was at the proper skill level but I'm so damn determined and stubborn with my instrument I practiced it until I nailed it. Like, I'm sure, many people on here sweep arpeggios and shredding are my favorite pastime! Also, I can play Arpeggios From Hell beginning to end, although considering where I'm posting this, that's probably not overly impressive :/ Are the solo's from Stabwound and Fermented Offal Discharge by Necrophagist more impressive? Ok I'm done. Lol.

Guitars:
Schecter Loomis 7 sig,(signed by nevermore(2010) and played by loomis)
Schecter damien 6
ESP DV8 mustaine sig
LTD m-50

XP:
over 10 years, no formal, dont remember much before the acid. and iv seen waynes world over 200 times. thats gotta count for somthing. gave guitar lessons for free beer for a while, until i puked on a kids cat. little fucker should'nt have been standing there.

Band:
just a shit ton of jam seshes. played in Inevid for a while. hard time finding people who are dedicated to their band.

Why guitar:
i just wanted to get laid like everyone else. and shred killer fucking wank riffs.

Influences:
Nevermore, Exodus, Slayer, SYL ,Trailer park boys Bubbles, GWAR, old school thrash, Chicks with huge TiTs, drugs and alchol. and a whole lot in between.

Self Promo:
their is nothing to say here, just trying to give back to metal. music is writen by someone but owned by the people who care to listen. When u hear that shit that rattles ur brains and makes u toss up some horns, that music becomes yours, your song, your voice. Long Live Metal!

K, guess I could take a wack at this....

What do you play?
Guitar, bass, drums
Main instrument is guitar. I play bass when it’s needed and have played drums in an old band I was in.

I won’t list all my guitars but my main instruments are:
Live:
Gibson Explorer stock (fucking hot ass pick ups in that bad boy!)
Jackson Performer V – it is ailing in its older years but some new pickups breathed some life back into that guitar
Practise:
Epiphone SG – customized this thing so I could add it to my live set up but still doesn’t quite have the muscle to compete with my other guitars. Replaced b and n PuPs, all tone and volume pots and it sounds good…but not good enough.

How long have you been playing? Any formal training?
I’ve been playing guitar for 19 years. If you count high school guitar class as “formal”, then yes, I’m trained in blues and classical guitar, if not, then no, predominantly self taught. Drums are self taught. I am by no means a “drummer” but I can do what is needed and I can write my own shit. Bass, again, is not my dominant instrument but I can do what I need with it to get the job done.

Are you currently in a band?
Yes - Lavagoat

If yes, promote! If not, are you currently looking?
I’m sure most people in this forum know about Lavagoat right now. Youtube us, google us, facebook us, check us out on myspace, twitter, reverbnation, etc. There’s lots of stuff appearing on the net and it’s easy to find.
http://myspace.com/goatlust

Any previous bands?
Unleash Hell
Nirnaeth Arnoediad
Berserker
Golgotha
Lose Your Morality
Session work with Beyond The Ninth Wave
Solo project called Solitude
There are numerous unnamed recordings floating around too but none in the public ear.

What made you choose said instrument?
I started listening to music with metal when I was 7 or 8. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure was the clincher. When I saw that movie when I was 9 or so, I decided I would own a flying V guitar. When I was 15 I saw Crossroads and the scene at the end of the movie where they cut heads sold me on guitar for life.

What are your influences?
Music, particularly metal, but music in general.

Any other tasty info for shameless self promotion?
No self promotion for me. As for tasty little info, I have my dirty little secrets when it comes to music I enjoy and the tricks I use to do what I do and sound the way I sound but I won’t be divulging any of that. Cheesy
