I met Don once at one of his shows in London Ontario about 6 years ago. I gave him one mof my CDs. To my surprise he said he's heard of me. Apparently I had played and agousic gig in Toronto with one of his students. He actually said we was supposed to go but he was sick that day. I just about fell over.

Don Ross is by far my favorite guitar player.

He is for sure very talented and the song in that video is just awesome. Is there purchasable recordings of his in Regina?

AND: Does he tour? cause if he ever came to Regina... I know i'd be there in a heart-beat.

I think he was here about 6 years ago. i wasn't living here then.

Check out his webpage at www.gobyfish.com . Should find some tour dates on there.

Some places that I've seen his discs are BACH and BEYOND in the Golden Mile and somettime at HMV. He's usually under the folk or world beat sections.

So apperently he tours everywhere (including France) but not Saskatchewan. Oh well, I'll keep my eyes open in the future.

And that Robot Monster(live) song is incredible!

TO THE GOLDEN MILE I MUST I GO.

Hey Pierre...that's awesome, good stuff. You might also like Bob Evans from here; you've probably already heard of him but he does some stuff sort of like Don Ross, a little more laid back but with that same eery control of harmonics and ultra-smooth hammer-ons and mashing the fingers on the trembolos and the meedley strings.

Bob Evans is quite deadlay man. Not sure on his womanly vocals, but he's definatly up there.

And Don Ross has been playing all day on my computer. He's just too awesome.

Bob Evans and Don Ross are the only two Canadian fingerpickers to win the Winfield, which is the be all and end all of finger picking champions. It's every fall in Kansas USA. The thing is that Don Ross is the only guy to EVER win it twice.

So kudos to Don and extra Kudos for Bob as he lives right here in Regina. The year before Bob won he got 3rd place. He's the man!!!

Well now that I am in the know-how of the gu1t4r play3rz, i'll start comming out more often. This semester was tougher for that because band practise was every monday night, and i sometimes went to school at 830.

next time you play, with or without him, i'll be there. I've been meaning to come out to one of these acoustic sets and watch. Danny told me he had a show comming up this month I think it was so I was thinking about going to that one.

I was just about to start this thread, then I saw you beat me to it Justin, you wad.  Man... all I've been listening to lately is music from CandyRat records.  Andy McKee, Don Ross, Antoine Dufour... and then like, Kaki King and few other guitarists I know.

Don Ross has so much soul it hurts.

and I think that Andy McKee has even more, somehow.

Ben you should send an app to CandyRat imo though - you definitely have a unique sound/style of your own <3.

Your unemptied ballsack is slowing you down.

and sending musix to CandyRat is a great idea. I'll back you up on that one G.

nothing wrong with that. I just love acoustic guitar. I'm really loving it this week especially. New guitar and something really juicy in the works. Did I say juicy?

Since you posted that video I imagine you've already checked out the stuff by Andy McKee already, which I really enjoy.  If you haven't already heard of him you should check out Erik Mongrain as well.

Actually, if you check out the CANdYRAT Records website and look in the acoustic artists section there are a lot of really good artists.  I believe that is the label that Don Ross is signed to.

Amazing guitarist, one of my favs, I love playing dumbed down versions of The First Ride, and Berklee Springs.

I saw him live when he was in Rergina many years ago.  It was in some gymnasium at like some little french school in the southeast. There was maybe 30-40 people there from what I remember. It was Long and Mcquade brought him in, or at least sponsered it or whatever. My dad took me cause I had just recently started playing guitar. That same year, I'm pretty sure it was, I also saw Neil Zaza (who also became one of my favs and his song 'I'm Alright' is pretty much my theme song).
