no order but I'd have to say the Groundhogs, Amon Duul, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Blue Cheer, Captain Beyond, the Smalls, Dropkicks, Black Flag, Cro-mags. That's 10 but there are so many more that I would consider in the same league.

Metallica is a questionable non-metal choice.

i wasn't criticizing your distinction between punk and metal....i was questioning how Shat got on your Top 10.....I mean, there is something very wrong with Jeff Wood

I still don't get how the fuck he was Dillingers bassist for a while

Cool. I just think that Shat is funny as hell, Kinda like "Grind Lite" with a good hearty dose of Weird Al on some strong drugs. That and they make me giggle.

Metallica is a questionable non-metal choice.

It was more of a dig on the band's going to shit than anything. If you want to hear good new Metallica you should go buy the new Trivum cd.

Have you heard anything they've done in the last 17 years?

I realize that they haven't done anything good in 17 years but it's still metal.  Just shitty metal.  And Trivium is even worse.

$$$$$$$$

straight to the point.  he's right, they still play metal, they just don't play the same metal they used to play.  they play "mainstream metal".  which is still metal.  no matter how much underground wants to keep it all to itself.

Only ten?  Uh oh.....I'll put some in alphabetical order.....

- Cannonball Adderly
- Cannibal Corpse (heheheheh - I violated the purpose of this topic but I can't stop listening to them)
- Creedence Clearwater Revival (hard to believe that a San Francisco based band could make such wicked swamp rock)
- Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
- Ella Fitzgerald (a girl I used to date and I were determined to call our first daughter Ella after this lady.  Now she has an Ella.  And I'm bitter)
- Front 242
- Hank Mobley
- Herbie Hancock (I got into sampling after watching a clip of him on Sesame Street with an old skool Linn sampler)
- Husker Du
- Jane's Addiction
- Janis Joplin (you know you're a child of the 90s when you can't listen to 'Son of a Preacher Man' without singing 'Hits from the Bong')
- Joy Division
- LOUDBOMB (Bob Mould's electronica project)
- Miles Davis
- Neil Young
- New Order
- Nirvana
- Pearl Jam
- Porno for Pyros
- Public Enemy
- REM (likely my all-time favourite band)
- Sage Francis (imho, the most talented poet alive)
- Siouxsie and the Banshees
- Skalpel
- Stan Getz
- Sugar (Guess what?  I like Bob Mould.  This band is why I can't hear)
- The Beastie Boys
- The Chambers Brothers
- The Cramps
- The Cure (this band reminds me of my homie Brad - we stopped being friends over a girl.  Turns out that that girl cheated on me about a million times.  A big part of me hopes that the Spice Guys will ride again)
- The Jesus and Mary Chain
- The Jimmy Castor Bunch (I came when I found a copy of It's Just Begun at Vintage Vinyl.  I don't think Pat has ever recovered from watching my Wayne Gretzky arm pumping, happy dance reaction.)
- The Postal Service
- The Powerhouse Trio
- The Smiths
- The Stooges
- The Who
- The Velvet Underground (Nico is the dead model of my dreams)
- Tool
- Ultravox (Midge Ure should not have gone solo - turns out he sucks)

And that is enough for now, but I could make this list four times the length....
