What's up with that? In punk and hardcore for the most part people are very accepting of one another, be it those of another race, sex or sexual orientation. But I find that 99% of people on Saskmetal and other metal boards will resort to calling something, someone or an entire genre, religion, etc. that they don't agree with, homosexual when they can't find something intelligent to point out. Maybe it's just me but that's kind of weak and goes against everything that people like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or even Slayer, Megadeth or Metallica stood for.

My point is, why is the most common used insult in metal, calling something/someone gay?

Again, I'm not generalizing here, there are alot of people that do not stoop to that level and will actually figure out something that they legitimately find repulsive about someone/something versus calling punk rock or hardcore "gay".

Thanks for your time faggots.

I'm pointing my finger at Fred Durst, and any other chest beating bands.  I would say that homophobia is more common with metal bands that have a dumber fan base, and these tend to be shitty bands that make shitty music (nu-metal).  Bands that are more accessible to the mainstream, which is the case more so for metal than hardcore and real punk, tend to draw in more meatheads/homophobes.  I've found that homophobia isn't that common outside mainstream metal community where you have smarter people creating and listening to music.

the word has just been used so much it's been accepted as slang. like cunt.  originaly the word was used to describe a goddess but now after people not liking, they use it in a derogatory form and what do you know, cunt is one of the most vile words you can say according to some people.  sadly enough that's it's happening with the word "gay" cunt was a goddess for women in matriarchial societies but when men saw this as a threat, they looked down on it and considered women weaker.  hence the down calling of the words cunt, bitch, whore and so on.  same thing here. gays are considered bad. you're not a man if you're gay.  so people go people gay.  and in doing so call things they don't like gay.
personally i'm trying to avoid using the word gay in the derogatory fashion and sticking to calling people ass hats.

Remember back in the day when gay meant happy. That was some swell times.

Today, the word gay doesn't even have a "homophobic" quality to it anymore. "Stop being gay" means more so "Stop being dumb" than "Stop liking someone of the same sex".

What a crazy world we live in.

I know gay people.
Some that have used the term "gay" to mean "lame" too ... strange phenomenon, huh ?
p.s. They aren't "metal".

was that for me?  or the pot?  or the kettle?

okay, my two cents, gay is an extremely general term these days that's lost so much of its original meaning it doesn't even matter anymore.  much like "retarded" or "love".  meaningless words.  i use the term a lot.  do i have anything against gay people?  not really, unless they hit on me.  at which point i would prefer that they stop.  they wanna be gay, that's their business.

using the term gay to insult someone is useful because it is effective.  the reason it is effective is because a good number of people are extremely responsive when their sexuality is called into question.  so calling someone "gay" or "a homo" or "a dick sucking queerbag" isn't really saying that it's bad to be that way, it's moreso pointed at an individual's desire to not be that way.  if you understand what i mean.

it's like turning to someone and calling them a pencil necked weakling.  there's nothing wrong with being that way, i should know.  however some people will take offence to being called that, so when trying to provoke, it is a handy insult.

anyways, i need to go fix my car.  cause it's being gay.

This is really the least hilarious message board I've ever encountered. Kill yourself Liberachi.

Wow, fat jokes. At least when Bob and Danny say them they use some creativity. Grow up and learn to insult people properly brokeback mountaineer. Until then keep sucking dicks til you gain their knowledge.

As far as i can see, you call people gay a fair amount too. Not to bust balls or anything, cause I agree calling people gay is one of the most common insults passed by metalheads.

Also I agree with what teh pp just posted. But not because he's gay. Just because he's right.

I often think how its funny that people say something is gay in a format that refers to something being lame.  Sometimes I say to those who use the term in that manner as "experts of gayness" because they know what is gay and what isn't to such a defined detail it makes me laugh...not that theres anything wrong with that.

Why are punks not as elitist as metal heads?

Best to meet some punks and find out for yourself. Cheesy

Just stay away from those "punks" with expensive outfits from World Of Trout and such, as these "punks" are lost and are most likely just jocks in sheep's clothing.

Warning: Fake punks may be prone to random acts of gay bashing, senseless vandalism, automobile window squeegeing, and promoting false punk such as Green Day or in worst cases even ska.

do i have anything against gay people?  not really, unless they hit on me.  at which point i would prefer that they stop.  they wanna be gay, that's their business.

Do you take offense when a chick you're not interested in hits on you?  or do you think to yourself, "hey, that's flattering, and makes me feel attractive, but unfortunately I'm just not interested in her."?

It's the same fuckin' thing, regardless of whether the person is a gay male you're not interested in, or a straight female you're not interested in.  Why does the fact that it's a male hitting on you strike you as more threatening than a female hitting on you?  Are you worried that if it's a gay man hitting on you, he won't take no for an answer and will anally rape you because if he's so morally devoid to be a homosexual, he must also be a rapist?  Are you also worried that gay people will turn your children gay?  Do you own a pickup truck and cruise around in it while shooting at road signs and listening to banjo music?

That "logic" of "it's okay if a dude's gay as long as he doesn't hit on me" infuriates me.  Seriously, how many gay men have ACTUALLY hit on you?

And FURTHERMORE, how many straight CHICKS have actually hit on you?

You REALLY don't have to worry about unwelcome advances!
