Sort of off topic,  I once had a SUNN , such a sick amp. That is all.

WTF are you going to do with 20 tubes of sound in one amp? That's just asking for overload failures.

1000 watts...that's hardly practical considering tube amps sound better when the tubes are pushed. You'll never be able to achieve good break up with that much power.

never the less , it will be made and tried . there was also talk of running it on 220v but that kinda limits where it can be played .

still need to find a cheap place to buy tubes

If musician's friend sells individual tubes I just might have to upgrade.

Agreed. Tubes should run hot at high resistance. 1000 watts dispersed from 20 tubes is going to either blow that fucker sky high or you'll never push it hard enough to maximize the clarity without shattering your eardrums and anything nearby made of wood or cells.

In other news, if you know which brand of tubes you want (ex/ SUNN) then see if you can order them dealer direct. Otherwise, Spectrum Sound in PA might have something to say. I do believe they can special order that kind of gear.

Personally I think you should just cannibalize ten Orange Generals for their 12's and have a field day grin

thats the plan . total domination in a box . also overkill for the sake of overkill .

You're gonna need some good speakers to push that kind of wattage through.

Probably two 4x12's with those Hughes and Kettner warp7 setups would do it.

Sounds cool, but I'd suggest doing a bit more research before piling a bunch of coin into something that could literally fry after 1 note.

a thd hot plate might help in pushing the amp without killing everything within a 50 feet radius.  An amp like this might very well be like that scene in Back to the Future.

www.thetubestore.co m is where my brother and I always get our tubes from. You can find any tube you may want. All the different brands, and types.

Make sure you take this amp to a good tech who has an oscilloscope to bias it before you turn it on.

Building a tube amp is something I've always pondered doing, and still probably will try it at some point. That being said.. I have to agree with what some of the other people here are saying. I think if you are going to actually go through with building an amp... buying the parts, getting some steel cut for the control plate, building a nice wooden box.. I think you you should put something together strategically that you know will sound nice. Choose your preamp and power amp tubes to suit the sound you are going for. The amount of watts an amp pushes out has little to no effect on whether or not the amp will ultimately sound good.

But if you just want a loud amp.. all the power to you.. I still think it sounds like a neat project.

as far as the rest of the project goes , the guy thats helping me has a degree in micro electronics and works in the audio industry .. i have faith in his knowledge and skills .
will check out thetubestore fo sho . as far as cash into the project , the tubes are the main cost . everything else we have kicking around or can get for pretty cheap with his merchant discounts .... just not the tubes Sad

So loud in fact that when they played at Maguire's here in Stoon, they were complaining that they couldn't hear the drummer.
