Probably not in the next lil while, I believe IE have some pretty extensive touring coming up. After their back from mexico they're gone for like 7 weeks. I think maybe something after that or something.

You were bragging here that you know them...believe it or not. If your attempt at trying to pick up girls is by non-chalantly mentioning "by the way, I know the band." that's pretty pathetic. There's nothing gayer than name-droppers.

correction Steph!..believe it or not. I was not bragging that I know them!....and I was not trying to pick this girl up! if I was to bragg I oculd without a doubt find something far better about myself to bragg about!....now here comes another cut down from Steph...CUE THE REMARKS!...and when I mentioned that story on this thread, I just thought it was cool that, aside form the fact the IE has toured world wide, that she knew who they were with hearing merely 10 seconds of a song! thats all I was trying to say here!..and if I came across as trying to bragg to people in here that I knew them!..come on!..That would be lame!..You dont know me Steph and I am not that arrogant or unintelligent!.. yeah...every single person in the Regina Metal scene does know IE ...and Roque n the dirtbred boys! big deal!...I was just simpley trying to tell a story stating that I thought it was real kick ass that this girl loved IE and caught the song right away!...THATS....ALL!!!!

I know the singer from Itchy Stitches and the bass player from Scarifier and as a fan of both bands, I hope they will just let this die. I also know the singer from Chapel Hill and he's no douche, although if he was I believe his head is perfect for a painless insertion.

The members involved in this thread fall into two categories:

Those that think saying whatever they want is fine and moderation is unneeded.

Those that think some moderation is necessary in some cases.

So the statement "That's why SM has gotten stupid" has two possible meanings, which are unclarified by anyone agreeing with it!

Title: Into Eternity
Post by: IFeelNothing on May 30, 2005, 02:35:20 PM
It has gotten stupid because there is to much needless rambling, fighting, pointlessness and imaturity. I'm not bitching, I have just choosen not to frequent here anymore. In fact, the only threads I read are the IS and Metal Chat threads. Everything else gets marked as read.

Its funny cause now I know how everyone else felt listening to my needless ramblings. SM hasnt gotten stupid I guess, just in my mind it has in the only my opionion sense.

I'm sure I'd still be on this site just as much as I was before if I was working at the metal pawn. Since I'm hardly on the computer anymore, it's easy to lose interest in this place. Not many of the "main characters" post anymore....probably because I'm gone...heh heh heh  kidding. But yeah, it's just gotten really boring on here--I completely disagree with this statement:

Those were the things in the first place that made SM what it was. Yes, even the fights. As much as most of you I'm sure would disagree--I guess it is what it is for different people, but I've always enjoyed the debates---heated as they may become from time to time.

Meh, who cares.

Bingo, it is what it is for different people.  I don't know what made SM what it was in the first place, I haven't been here from day 1.  But I do know that what made it what it is for me was the acceptance and sense of community and the fact that it's nothing like that joke of a message board called QCP.  And for awhile it kind of felt like it was losing its way big time as too much of everything became the arguments.  Now I feel it's a much better place, and I understand the idea of arguments being discouraged in certain areas, specifically areas like local bands where i feel it's the worst possible place for them.

that's why i'm all in favour of backing up Ted's first post.

Post by: Chester on June 09, 2005, 02:50:50 PM
as per Bower:

Having performed in over 20 countries across North America and Europe supporting their album "Buried In Oblivion", Canadian progressive death metal band INTO ETERNITY just added a new country to their resume: Mexico. Guitarist/growler Tim Roth returned from the Monterrey Metal Fest last week with the highest praise: "The festival was a complete success. We went on at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday to thousands of fans. The crowd seemed hungry for metal. 'Spiraling Into Depression' went over the best from our set and after the show we met a lot of fans and signed everything that they had."

JAG PANZER guitarist Mark Briody, whose band headlined the second stage, concurred: "I had high expectations for our first appearance in Mexico. I expected a festival attended by hordes of crazed metal fans; my expectations were exceeded, and then exceeded again and again.

"There were two stages and they were a good distance apart, and to watch the whole crowd move from stage to stage was incredible. I noticed something unusual from the stage during the first chorus of the song: I’d see about one-fourth of the crowd singing along. By the next chorus, about half the crowd was singing, and by the end the whole crowd was singing. It was great to see people who were unfamiliar with the song learn it on the spot and participate.

"Sign me up for any more shows in Mexico. Mexico RULES!"

INTO ETERNITY began their North American tour yesterday with the first of seven headlining shows. After these dates the band will be touring with HATE ETERNAL, KRISIUN, INCANTATION, and ALL SHALL PERISH. INTO ETERNITY will also tour North America with HAMMERFALL and EDGUY, and then again with STRATOVARIUS.

I've finally managed to set up that myspace site we've been wanting...... í spend a lot of hours editing the looks, but it might need some more finetuning. i'm also new at the whole thing, so i'm not sure what to comment on friends pages... do i mention it's me and not a bandmember (i do mention it on our page) or do I just keep it superficial (thanks for the support, you rule, blah blah) as I've done so far with the first additions.... Some of you have more experience with this, so let me know what you think. Come and find us... unfortunately that myspace thread we had here is gone :(

INTO ETERNITY guitarist/vocalist Tim Roth has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

"It has been an amazing month for INTO ETERNITY. We have just landed the opening slot on the Eastern USA OPETH/NEVERMORE tour! This whole year for us just keeps getting better and better. The whole band is very thankful for this huge opportunity. The last time we got to tour with NEVERMORE was way back in 2001. The band was still young, but NEVERMORE treated us like brothers. That is something I will never forget. The last time we saw them was in Italy at the Gods of Metal.

"All the guys are fans of OPETH as well and we can't wait to get on the road with these talented bands. There will be a high level of musicianship, so hopefully we can learn off of these amazing players! This will be a great package to witness, so I know all of our diehard fans will be there to support us as usual. Take care and we will see you on the road soon!"

I just find it odd that they (IE) failed to let anyone know about this. Now people are ging to the shows and noticing that Rob has been replaced. I think IE should make clear what their intentions are with the replacement. Giving no details or explanation has brought this on. I'm anxious to hear what the "official" story is. People will continue to speculate until IE clarifys the situation.

i read the article and i do have to agree with what the one guy posted...i lost interest in this band when they replaced the singer, the buried album is very good, i still listen to it every now and again, but i cant bare to hear a different sound than what im listening, thus i refuse to attend their shows, im hearing mixed reviews regarding the "changes" but in all honesty, it seems like someones head in this one man show that is into eternity has got to be deflated before he fires and replaces himself...how fucked up thatd be, but unfortunately it seems possible at this point....if anyone doesnt like my opinion then go fuck a donkey and call yerself pinnochio donkey fucker...

I heard about this on the weekend. I was quietly waiting for something to come out - I guess it has, in a way.

As much as I enjoy listening to them and seeing them live, IE has some serious issues - number one being they've stayed here. Ask Kick Axe, Colin James, Streetheart, or Age of Electric  how easy it is to remain relevent in the music industry while maintaining permanent residency in Regina, let alone remain relevent in the underground metal scene where 90% of the audience is across the Atlantic Ocean. It's always going to be an uphill battle for them until they get out of here.

Good point.  But, with the current status they hold on their label, are they able to live anywhere else other than Saskatchewan on the little $$ they make on the road.

And to Copper_Nocturne, I don't think Tim's head is inflated to the point where he goes on a power trip firing people.  I think a lot of it has to do with certain members not being able to handle an extensive touring schedule that earns little to no money, thus, making it hard to live in something other than a cardboard box back home.  I'm not one to speak for other people, but, Tim's cabs make him money when he's gone so he has less worries then someone working at a pawn shop or a crown corporation who has to take a leave of absense with no pay just to tour.  I'm sure he understands that, but, at the same time he's driven to make a name for himself in the music industry and if that means replacing his band with musicians that can tour and help him achieve that goal then so be it.  I think that it's one thing in this business to be a talented musician, but, it's a whole different ball game when you're trying to tour for 10 months out of the year making barely enough money to live.  Some can live that life and some can't, it's just a metter of personal preference and what's more important to the individual.

Like I said before, I can't speak for anyone, let alone know exaclty what goes on inside a band like Into Eternity.  I can only speculate liek the rest of you until someone actually comes out and says exactly what's going on...not that its any of our business anyway.  As long as the fans know who's in the band and who they're gonna see on stage every night, that's all that matters.

I remember when Rob was all about the music and money didn't seem to matter. Back when he was trying to convince Jim to stick in the band, but Jim knew financially it was not a wise decision.

Funny how shit changes, ain't it?

good points...im just not sold on:

a band that builds a sound only to have it change, and then pawns it off as an evolution saying things like "this will bring a new dynamic" first of all, who the fuck asked for a new dynamic, im sure the new ones are great musicians in their own right, but its the old sound that i enjoyed...a financial bickering amongst their members is their own business, but did they honestly think that they'd get their bajillions in metal, metal to me is heart, thats why i like it, iunno...its frustrating...as i get older, the music changes, it has changed IMMENSLY and its disheartening to hear that a certain sound is going to change, yet again, in such a short amount of time...kind of annoying really.  ill still buy the new album, but i got my expectations high, and dun want em stomped.  until then, the new dynamic is not welcomed to my ears on this matter...otherwise. ..the tower slowly crumbles...

I agree with this point.  I really miss the sound of the first 2 albumds to be totaly honest.  But, in their defence, what else are they supposed to tell the fans to reassure them that the band will still kick ass when the members change other than "we will have a dynamic new sound".

I agree with Steph too.  It's easy to say it's not about the money when you're not relying on your music for financial support.

Title: Re: Into Eternity

I really don't think they give a flying fuck as to what the fans want to hear, and nor should they. I know in the bands that I played in, we wrote music that we wanted to hear, not what everybody else wanted to hear. If Tim or anyone else in Into Eternity want to hear or play something different, then they should bloody well do it. I personally enjoy their older stuff as well and am not that fond of the new lineup or sound, but I'm not about to criticize their choices because they're making the music that they want.

Hey guys.. someone on the IE forum had a question about the current line up and was wondering if someone knew the full history of line up changes since the first album and as I've been following them closely since 2001, I knew I could make a pretty good list (I sometimes had to guess the month though), just not for the early early days. That's where some of you may come in handy ;) So if you know anything more I'd love to hear it and no more sarcastic remarks about the amount of changes etc please. It's a fairly normal thing for a band that tours this much and doesn't make a living with it. I just wanted to try and get the history as complete as I could, so here it is:

starting date 1997
Temp members in the beginning include Todd Barlow (bass - or was that pre-Into Eternity?), Chris Krall (vocals) and

Trevor Seghers (guitar)

1999

Into Eternity CD
Tim Roth - lead vocals, guitar
Chris Eisler - guitar
Chris McDougall - keyboards
Scott Krall - bass, vocals
Jim Austin - drums, vocals

2001

Dead Or Dreaming CD
Tim Roth - lead/death vocals, guitar
Daniel Nargang - lead/backing vocals, guitar
Scott Krall - bass, backing vocals
Jim Austin - drums, death vocals

early 2002

Chris Krall - lead vocals
Tim Roth - lead/death vocals, guitar
Jeff Storry - guitar
Scott Krall - bass, backing vocals

If I remember correctly, Blair Panagapano(sp?) was the original drummer from the "Barlow era".

Oh Blair.

One of Regina's best metal drummers back in the day. I remember meeting him when we were 17....he was such a good drummer. Not really sure what happened but he ended up doing a variety of jobs before he turned firefighter and started touring with a country band.

Back in the old days in grade 9 (1999)  we would search on icq for someone like 19-25 from regina that was online, and ask them to pull beer for us.   One of the men were scott krall from IE hahaha true story.  He would talk to me about his up and coming rock band.

Todd told me that the original Into Eternity was Tim Roth, Chris McDougall, Todd Barlow, and Blair Panagapko.

If I remember correctly, Chirs Eisler never played in the S/T CD...he joined the band shortly after.  Although, I think he did help record Silence Through Virtue" with was later added to the re-release through DVS.

Trevor Seghers was in Centuries beneath with Tim and Chris Krall.  Into Eternity was formed long after that becasue Tim played in Pericardium in between CB and IE.  I'm not sure if this is 100% correct...just going on what I've learned from others in the past 8 years.

I know for sure that Trevor Seghers was in Into Eternity in the early days. He used to live across the street from me and he kept referring to the "old IE days". (At least that's what Trevor says anyway).

Marlies, one other lineup that I can think of right now would be somewhere between the 1999-2001 lineups you posted.  There was another keyboard player playing with Into Eternity for awhile (I can't remember his name) after Chris left the band.  I only remember seeing them play live once with this other keyboard player, so I don't know if it's really an official lineup, but just thought I'd say it anyway.

Isn't Danny Nargang on the self titled album? I'm pretty sure he's in the liner notes.

Yeah that's right.  We (Suffersurge) played two shows with Into Eternity back in 2000 when they had that keyboard player.  I know his name was Chris as well, but I can't remeber his last name.  I remember we were sitting around with the at The Moon one night during soundcheck and he was showing me all these preliminary drawings he had for an Into Eternity comic book his was working on.  He was acutally a really talented artist.  Also, with those few shows he played with Into Eternity, they did this killer version of Unholy (Fields of the Dead) and he played the whole song on keybaords with no other instruments while Tim, Danny Nargang, Scott Krall, and Amy Ozog did an awesome 4 part harmony.  I do remember that he was a delivery guy @ SaskPower for awhile when I worked there too.

Danny Nargang didn't play on the first album...Tim did all the guitars and Chris Eisler joined shortly after if I'm not mistaken.  Danny didn't come into the band until the sessions started for Dead or Dreaming.

Yes, that is the original line up, we did one show and a 5 song demo. When Blair quit the band fell apart completely and Tim reformed it when he found Jim. Me and Scott came in and out a couple times each due to job comitments before the Krall's, Austin, Roth line up solidified. And Seghers was never in the band, it was discussed but it never went beyond those discussions.

I finally found some cool gallery software (used it on the BoB page first) and now I'm sorting out all the pics I gathered over the years.

I'm coming across some Halloween 2003 pics (taken at the time from a previous saskmetal edition) where IE apparently played, but I don't have any date around halloween in the tour list.... does anyone remember??

IE didn't play that night. Dirtbred headlined and "Soilspawn" (which was me, Reid from UTA, Tyler from Daemonen, Ryan (Sikfuk), and Jim) played Burn It as the encore. But now that I think of it, I don't think that was halloween that it happened, and I definitely don't remember Jim in that get-up. So nevermind then....

It was indeed Halloween of 2003, though I don't remember who all was playing.  I'm pretty sure Dirtbred was on the bill, as that was the first time I actually saw them.  Memorial might also have been on the bill, but past IE and Dirtbred, I don't remember much of the line up.  I do know that was the first time I saw them play "Spiralling Into Depression".  It was one of the best shows I've been to.  Really, it was that good.

Somebody recently mentioned you guys should play Imagination Overdose at a show.  I concur, it would be nice to see a rare song played live round these parts.  Like that or Dead or Dreaming, or Isolation, or one of the slower tunes (other than Morose).  That would pretty much rule.

"It was a great year of touring for us in 2008. The SYMPHONY X USA tour and Japan were the two high points for me. During the long drives we would crank SYMPHONY X's last album, 'Paradise Lost', and try to air guitar the licks and sing along to Russell's [Allen] smooth pipes.

"I was personally out of the touring game in mid-September because Cortney and I were expecting a baby. Music has always been number one in my life, but I had to stay home and support the family. On November 28, 2008 Lucca Jacob Yngwie Roth was born into our world at 9:36 a.m. Cortney picked his first name, so I got to pick his middle names. Jacob was my father and Yngwie is my all-time favourite guitar player. The choice of names was an easy one for me. Now all of my time has been dedicated to the family and it will be into the next year as well."

Here are some "cool albums" that Tim Roth has been digging in 2008:

01. YNGWIE MALMSTEEN - Perpetual Flame
02. GUNS N' ROSES - The Chinese Democracy
03. CYNIC - Traced In Air
04. OPETH - Watershed
05. DRAGONFORCE - Ultrabeatdown
06. TESTAMENT - Formation Of Damnation
07. METALLICA - Death Magnetic
08. WARREL DANE - Praises To The War Machine
09. TRIVIUM - Shogun
10. ZERO HOUR - Dark Deceiver
11. KATAKLYSM - Prevail
12. JUDAS PRIEST - Nostradamus
13. BUCKCHERRY - Black Butterfly

"Time Immemorial", the new video from INTO ETERNITY, can be viewed below. The track appears on the group's concept album, "The Incurable Tragedy", which sold 1,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The clip, which features vocalist Stu Block in a prominent role, was filmed in Montreal in August, just before the group embarked on the Summer Slaughter Canada tour. That trek was followed by a run alongside the legendary ICED EARTH, which capped off a year that also saw the band tour with SYMPHONY X, AT THE GATES and THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, among others.

i would like to add , Tim your top 13 list kinda sucks :)

Drummer Steve Bolognese of Canadian extreme progressive metallers INTO ETERNITY has issued the following update:

"It's a tremendous honor to be invited back to Berklee College Of Music's world percussion festival.

"This is my fourth year as a guest instructor.

"This is always a highlight for me.

"I love teaching and always have such a great time with the students.

"There are always amazing performers that come through the school during this week of intense percussion study, and that's a real treat for everyone involved.

"As far as INTO ETERNITY goes, we are currently finishing up writing the second song for our next record. I promise this to be the best INTO ETERNITY record yet."

In May 2010, INTO ETERNITY founding guitarist/principal songwriter Tim Roth stated about the band's forthcoming CD, "My original intention for the new [INTO ETERNITY] album was an all-heavy/fast album. However, we have just demoed a 6:07-minute acoustic track for Song 2. The song doesn't feel finished yet, but Stu [Block, vocals] and I are coming up with lyrics and cool melodies to sing over and then we'll have a better picture to where the song is headed."

"Time Immemorial", the latest video from INTO ETERNITY, can be viewed below. The track appears on the group's concept album, "The Incurable Tragedy", which sold 1,900 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The clip, which features vocalist Stu Block in a prominent role, was filmed in Montreal in August 2008, just before the group embarked on the Summer Slaughter Canada tour. Article in today's LP about Stu (i actually thought it was well written for a change) (also i can't post a link because it's not on the LP's site, just in the paper/digital edition):

Quote
Block in the big leagues

New gig is a ‘dream come true’

Into Eternity founder Tim Roth knew the risk when he hired Vancouver singer Stu Block seven years ago to lead his band.

Roth understood he wouldn’t be the only one to covet Block, known for his wide vocal range and ability to write and perform complicated metal melodies.

So when Block, who fronted Regina’s best known metal band during its most successful years, recently delivered the news that he’d accepted an offer to join American metal outfit Iced Earth, Roth wasn’t surprised.

“It’s kind of like going out with a supermodel. It’s great while it lasts. But in the end, you know it’s going to end badly,” Roth said.

“It was just a matter of time. Stu was going to get discovered sooner or later … But when I got Stu, it was like a godsend.”

For Block, the offer from one of metal’s most high-profile bands was too good to pass up, even though it meant disappointing his friends.

“It was difficult telling Tim. I can still remember that day. But he was amazing about it and I knew he would be,” said the 32-year-old Block. “But this is such an amazing opportunity. This really is a dream come true for me.”

Roth acknowledges Block’s decision is a blow to his band — plans for a new Into Eternity album and tour are now on the back burner. But he’s also pleased for his friend.

“We are all trying to live the same dream. Stu got called up to the big leagues … I’m really happy for him,” Roth said.

In the meantime, Into Eternity will continue as a part-time band. Block has committed to help record a new song, as well as to a few Into Eternity shows this spring. Roth said he hopes Into Eternity can ramp up whenever Iced Earth takes a break.

“We weren’t going out to conquer the world or anything, but I wanted to do some touring and write a new album,” Roth said.

“But now we’re going to take a step back and wait for Stu,” said Roth, adding he stays busy with his taxi business.

Roth concedes the timing of Block’s news wasn’t the greatest. Roth was ready with ambitious plans after a few years of taking care of personal issues. After the death of Roth’s father, the band toured without him and hired a guitarist while Roth took time away. The birth of Roth’s son Lucca caused a further delay, which prompted Century Media to drop Into Eternity from its roster.

Even though Roth had new plans for his band, it doesn’t make sense to hire a new singer because Block has been with the band for so long and contributed so much to the band’s evolution, he said.

“The endless travel, all the shows, all the countries. You just can’t erase that,” said Roth, who has received interest from singers eager to audition.

“If I wanted another singer, I could go out and do that pretty easily. But Stu has been in the band for seven years. He helped build the band with me.”

In the meantime, Block is busy working with members of his new band and helping write songs for a new Iced Earth album, which will be recorded after he officially joins the band later this year.

The Iced Earth vacancy came after singer Matt Barlow announced plans to step down in October. Iced Earth founder Jon Schaffer, who became a fan of Block’s singing during a tour a few years ago when Into Eternity played on the same bill, called Block this spring and invited him to his home in rural Indiana to work on a few songs.

Block accepted Schaffer’s offer to join the band a few days after that.

“I am proof that with perseverance, your dreams can come true,” said Block, adding that he has plans to quit his marketing job in Regina this fall before he joins Iced Earth.

“For a metal singer to be able to quit his day job and be able to sing in a band without having to worry about the money thing is a rare thing.”

Block said he was pleased Roth wanted him to remain a member of Into Eternity, even though he shares Roth’s frustration that Into Eternity never became more successful, despite its relentless touring and success in the metal community.

“We all hoped that Into Eternity would become the next big thing — but the music industry is so ass backwards right now. Nobody is sure whether to go right or go left,” Block said.

“But there comes a point when a musician wakes up and thinks, ‘What am I going to do about a pension plan?’ ”

Schaffer said Block’s voice and talents as a songwriter and performer, make him a perfect fit for Iced Earth.

“There’s no doubt Stu has an amazing vocal range and a lot of energy, but he also has the touring experience, which is a big plus for our plans of performing in all corners of the world,” Schaffer said in a statement.

“I felt a lot of chemistry between us. We knocked out a couple of great original pieces of music in no time,” Schaffer added.

Martin Popoff, a Toronto expert on heavy metal who has written more than two dozen books on the subject, said Block is joining an important band.

“For a guy to get called up to a band like Iced Earth is a big deal,” said Popoff, adding he’s been long aware of Into Eternity’s reputation as a band made up of nice guys from Regina who tour like crazy and make high-calibre metal.

Popoff said that Block’s reputation is well known in metal circles and knows that his talents will suit Iced Earth well, even though Barlow is a big name in metal.

“He has big shoes to fill because Matt Barlow has a pretty big following,” Popoff said. “He might have to put up with a few boos in the early going.

“Stu has the long hair, that heavy metal look and a pure metal voice. Iced Earth isn’t as popular in North America as it is in Europe where fans go nuts for them,” he said.
